Thistle Flower GHOST PRINT - woodblock print (5x7")

"Thistle Flower" is a prickly flower made of little purple spiny petals and a green bulbous base. I love the combination of the harsh spikes but the pretty flower it produces for more gentle critters like butterflies and bees.

Printed on cream thick cotton paper with purple and green inks from the hand carved wood block used for my "Thistle Flower" edition. The background orange color was actually printed from a copper plate during my college days! This was a fun way to use up some good paper and make a unique print. It's a "ghost" print because the block is printed with any leftover ink on the block after it's already been printed. This leaves the print a bit speckled and see through. Title, artist signature, edition number, and year of production appear on the front.
